Designed to provide a focused skillset for those students interested in pursuing a career as a Documentary Filmmaker. The Film and Television Production Program seeks to inspire and empower students to study and work in an industry that they are passionate about, furnishing them with the skills and knowledge to create meaningful careers in the film and television industry. Santa Barbara City College provides a supportive learning environment for students to succeed via our curriculum in Film and Television and hands-on production classes. Students are taught industry-level productions skills, media literacy, and critical thinking skills that prepare them for college transfer or entry into the industry. Students will have an opportunity to earn a Film, Television and Electronic Media (AS-T) for Transfer Degree or a Film Production Associate in Arts (AA) degree.

The Film and Media Studies Department at Santa Barbara City College offers a wide variety of courses designed for film majors and interested non-majors who wish to enhance their knowledge and appreciation of film and media as part of their undergraduate education. Students are exposed to a vast array of films from the classic to the contemporary, including both American and international works.

The Certificate of Achievement in Technical Production is awarded to a student who has completed a basic series of technical production courses in preparation for a career in theatre and related entertainment technology. The Certificate of Achievement in Technical Production is a program designed to provide students with the technical skills and knowledge needed to work in the entertainment industry. The program focuses on the technical aspects of production, including lighting, sound, and stage management.

The Certificate of Achievement in Acting Level Two provides students with foundational knowledge in the area of script analysis, acting for theatre, and acting for the camera. No audition is required to enroll. There are a variety of career opportunities for students completing this certificate. The objective of the certificate is to demonstrate skill, experience, and education in the area of acting to promote hiring in the area of theatre, film, television, and other media platforms.

The Certificate of Achievement in Acting Level One is awarded to a student who has completed a beginning level series of acting and related courses in preparation for a career in theatre and related entertainment industries. This Certificate of Achievement will better prepare a student to secure a job in the professional theatre industry. Acting opportunities exist on the stage, in film, television, themed entertainment, commercials, industrials, corporate business theatre, and the video game industry. After successfully completing this certificate a student could be hired as a stage manager, actor, playwright, crew member in the film and/or television industry, production assistant, casting assistant, or general theatre technician.

In ACS (Attestation of College Studies) - Film and Television Production get hands-on experience with a variety of projects, including short films, web series, television broadcasts, and commercials. Get involved with various projects and take advantage of this opportunity to make use of industry-standard equipment, including video cameras (HD, 4K, and more), sound recording tools, lighting setups, television broadcast consoles, green screens, and contemporary video post-production and editing software.

Designed for those with little or no experience of filmmaking, this intensive short film course will provide hands-on training in professional filmmaking under the guidance of industry filmmakers and tutors.

In this selective entry certificate program, Cinematography majors are taught to visualize a movie while working with the Director and Art Department to provoke the audience's emotional response - the essence of why people go to see films.

This qualification is awarded by the University of Arts London, a top six world ranking university for art and design. The Creative Media sector has lots of opportunities for talented people with the right skills and experience. If you have an interest in film making, television production or photography, then this practical course will give you the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to plan, manage and film video productions in a range of styles and formats.
