Introduction
Shoe Making
One-Year Course
Students will learn all the necessary techniques of shoe making, from the basic to high-level. In addition to various types of shoes, students can study shoes for specific necessities, such as shoes pursuing “simplicity and comfort”, “durability”, “functional shoes for feet with medical problems”, “elegance for parties”, etc. and acquire skills enough to start up their career as a shoe maker. Students will also acquire general inter-discipline knowledge on art through basic art lessons (3D Drawing, Color Theory, Art History, Basic Painting) and Art-Visits outside of the classroom.
Semester Course
Students will study basic type shoe making, and then gradually challenge shoes with more complicated techniques, through making a pair of ladies pumps and a pair of stylish men’s shoes. The focus is placed on acquiring solid basic skills in all the steps of shoe making, in order to prepare for more advanced study.
Students will also acquire general inter-discipline knowledge on art through basic art lessons (3D Drawing, Color Theory, Art History, Basic Painting) and Art-Visits outside of the classroom.
Shoe Design
One-year Course
Students will create a collection of shoes with specific themes, such as specific age groups or market, selecting colors, textile, or designs to apply. Students will choose their topic, create shoe design plans, research various types of shoe designs, modern techniques and special functions. The ultimate goal of the course is that each student will acquire enough skills to start working as a professional.
Students will also acquire general inter-discipline knowledge on art through basic art lessons (3D Drawing, Color Theory, Art History, Basic Painting) and Art-Visits outside of the classroom.
Semester Course
Students will learn basic shoe design processes, with focus on building up a solid basis of shoes design ability. Students will study the structure of human feet, draw several types of design, and prepare for more advanced design. Students will perform research on variation of colors and materials, as well as market trend and learn to express their free ideas into actual design.
Students will also acquire general inter-discipline knowledge of art through basic art lessons (3D Drawing, Color Theory, Art History, Basic Painting) and Art-Visits outside of the classroom, to cultivate their artistic sensibilities and global perspective as a designer and complete a season’s collection.

In the Shoe Making major, Accademia Riaci offers students a rare chance to learn the authentic, top-level shoe making techniques, directly from Italian leather artisans with highest skills and rich experience.
In our course, students can learn all the steps of shoe making process (making the last, cutting pattern, choosing materials, sewing, etc.) which can be worn for a long time. You can learn all the types of shoes, including ladies shoes, men’s shoes, shoe for children, babies, boots, sportive shoes, party shoes, casual shoes, etc.
And in Shoe Design major, students will learn design techniques of various shoes for different scenes and are unique, which is characteristics of Italian shoes. For example, precious shoes like jewelry, shoes that fit one’s feet as if it’s part of the body with an airy touch like a feather.
Students will research and analyze colors, patterns, shapes, and design and learn shoe design diversity, changes, and advanced application, and complete their own design. The main focus of the course is to encourage each student’s uniqueness and to convey it into design through original, free and rich expression.
