Biotechnology Associate in Science Degree Biotechnology draws from many disciplines, including genetics, immunology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computer science. Recent advances in biotechnology have resulted in major contributions to the fields of medicine, pharmacy, public health, and agriculture.

The Animal Science Associates Degree focuses on animal behavior, husbandry, production, and services which; are a critical part of animal agriculture and related industries. The curriculum provides a combination of technical knowledge and practical skills utilizing a hands-on approach to instruction.

The Associate of Science in Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering is a state-recognized Major Related Program (MRP) designed for students who plan to transfer to a Bachelor of Science degree program at a four-year college or university. Entry into many engineering programs is competitive, and students are urged to work closely with TCC advisors and university advisors to ensure all entry requirements are met. The first two years of a bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering can be completed at TCC. Students can earn an associate degree to transfer to a Washington state public university.

You’ll complete the requirements of the freshman and sophomore years of most engineering programs at a university. This pre-major program is designed to prepare you to transfer at the junior level into an engineering program at a four-year college or university.

The Nursery Management Specialist Associate in Science degree program provides advanced training for working in the wholesale and retail nursery industry. Students will learn growing and maintenance practices for a wide variety of plant species, advanced propagation techniques, watering systems, basic soil and fertilizer chemistry, pest and disease control, and nursery business operations.

Jobs and a preferred lifestyle are what inspire most students to enter Santa Barbara City College's Environmental Horticulture program. The department offers a one-year Certificate in Environmental Horticulture as well as a two-year A.S. degree with six areas of emphasis to choose from. "Learn by doing" is the program's philosophy. Practical labs, cooperative work study and apprentice training are heavily integrated into the program.

Biotechnology is applied in many fields, including chemical engineering, information technology, and biorobotics. Biotechnology is used to improve agricultural crops, conduct recombinant DNA procedures, and produce and improve pharmaceuticals. A strong background in biotechnology is a valuable employee asset in U.S. clinical and research laboratories.

The biotechnology curriculum will provide students a robust foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics in order to transfer to and succeed in four-year institutions. Students will be familiar with various bio-techniques, bioinstrumentation as well as bioinformatics, microbiology, molecular biology, and cell biology. Students will also gain the necessary laboratory skills for entry-level in the Biotechnology industry.

Baccalaureate degree programs in agriculture may include various specialties, such as agricultural economics, agribusiness, agricultural sciences (animal science, crop or plant science, soil science, and horticulture), agricultural mechanics, and agriculture education. To transfer into a baccalaureate degree program in agriculture as a junior, students need to complete a minimum of 60 semester credits.

This associate degree program in Bioengineering is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the bioengineering industry, such as those in local, national laboratories. Students will develop a strong foundation in the sciences (chemistry, biology, physics) and engineering.

The Associate in Science in Agriculture Plant Science for Transfer Degree provides for applying the various principles of the biological and physical sciences in agriculture. The course offerings are fundamental and broad in scope to transfer and prepare to seek employment.

The Forest Restoration and Fire option prepare students with skills needed to engage in forest disturbance management and processes, including wildfire, landslides, insects, and disease. Graduates will have the knowledge and the skillset to incorporate natural processes, including disturbance, into active forest management planning.

This program will provide foundational knowledge and skills for the next generation of wine-grape growers and wine producers in the Sierra Nevada foothills region of northern California. The program offers introductory training appropriate for local and regional wine-related employment opportunities and further training at 4-year programs in viticulture and oenology.

The Chemistry Program permits the student to fulfil the lower-division chemistry for transfer programs to four-year institutions and acquire the necessary skills for employment in Chemistry.

The Associate of Science in Agriculture is a transfer degree for the student who plans to major in an agricultural related field. Northark has agreements with the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and with Arkansas Tech University to offer students seamless options for transfer into specified agriculture majors or concentrations using the AS in Agriculture degree, but the degree can also serve as a foundation for students who plan to transfer elsewhere.
