About Amsterdam Fashion Academy

The Amsterdam Fashion Academy is a unique, highly specialised academy. The combination of stylish sophistication with unconventional individualism makes the Amsterdam Fashion Academy a cut above the rest. Live industry projects and internships with leading fashion brands give our international students invaluable first-hand experience of how the industry really works.

Our status as a small scale, intimate and supportive fashion academy is part of our core identity and informs our approach to teaching. We are proud of being a space for students who do not feel at home in traditional ‘mass’ educational establishments. With regard to class sizes, less really is more: fewer students per class means our tutors are able to give every student the personal attention they need to flourish and grow whilst maintaining their individuality.

Applying to one of our undergraduate or foundation programmes is the first important step in your future at Amsterdam Fashion Academy. We greatly appreciate your trust in our academy and we will give your request careful consideration. Choosing the right course at a university that’s right for you is a big decision to make.

That’s why we don’t just make our decisions based on a submitted form, but prefer to talk to you during one of our interview days or open days. Your motivation, drive and commitment are just as important to us as your prior education. In order to make the admission process as clear and straightforward as possible, we have split it into four steps.

Step 1: Request for Information or Open Day

Fill out the Request for Information form of the programme of interest or sign up to an Open Day. We will contact you to schedule an appointment (video call or meeting) to find out more about you and give you more information about the programme.

Step 2: Fill out the application form

  • Complete the form in each section;
  • Upload your letter of motivations or personal statement;
  • Upload a digital copy of your secondary school diploma or transcript of grades or proof of enrolment;
  • Upload a digital copy of your passport;
  • Upload a passport-size photo;
  • Upload your portfolio (this is mandatory only for the Bachelor’s degree Fashion Design applicants);
  • Pay the application fee of € 350 (see details in the application form).

Step 3: Interview

  • We will invite you an Interview Day.
  • If you can’t attend the Interview Day, we will propose you another date to you.
  • Depending on the programme, you may need to complete an assignment before the Interview Day;
  • During the Interview Day, you will also work on a collaborative task with other applicants.

Step 4: Admission

  • Within 2 weeks following the Interview Day, we will let you know if you have been admitted.
  • If so, we will send you the letter of admission and the agreement to sign. At this stage, you will be able to select the payment plan you prefer.
  • Once we receive the signed agreement from you, we will send you the invoice.
  • Pay the deposit (20% of the tuition fee) before or on the 10th of April, 2024 (early bird tuition fee) or after 10th of April, 2024 (regular tuition fee).

I'm not a holder of an EEA passport, can I apply?

Unfortunately, we are legally unable to support a study visa for students outside of the EEA (EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland), therefore unless you hold a valid EEA passport or Dutch residence permit we would not be able to accept your application to our Bachelor's degrees and Foundation Diploma.

Can I get a study visa?

Unfortunately, we are legally unable to supply study visas to students who want to apply to our Bachelor's degrees and Foundation Diploma.

The academy is located in the heart of Amsterdam. Whilst Amsterdam may be the capital of the Netherlands, it has a ‘small-city’ feel to it and is one of the top destinations for students who wish to study abroad. Amsterdam is a friendly international and multicultural city which has become home to many of our lecturers and students.

Forget about London and Milano: Amsterdam is the modern-day creative hub of fashion, art and music. The city really does offer something for everyone! From world-class museums, festivals and exhibitions to the varied nightlife and incredible historical architecture, Amsterdam has it all.

The biggest international fashion brands also call this city their home for good reason. Amsterdam is an incredibly welcoming place too: a city characterised by its open-minded and tolerant nature. Indeed, the city has a long history of supporting progressive causes – such as LGBT+ rights – is very multicultural and multilingual. In short, Amsterdam offers the perfect setting for our inclusive boutique fashion academy and we are proud to call this city our home.

Amsterdam Fashion Academy is recognised as an official partner with Coventry University. Therefore, it is the first school in the Netherlands to offer University awarded British Bachelor’s (Honours) Degree programmes validated by Coventry University with the opportunity to study and receive an internationally recognised degree at the Amsterdam Fashion Academy. A British Bachelor Honours degree is one of the most widely established and recognised degrees worldwide.
