Introduction

In response to a growing demand for practitioners capable of assuming a wide range of roles in physician’s offices and other healthcare settings, Amarillo College established a Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) program in 2014. Graduates are entitled to sit for national certification exams. AC’s first cohort to emerge from the program unanimously passed those exams – clear evidence that AC students are optimally equipped to enter the workforce.

What can you do with a Clinical Medical Assistant certification?

Medical assistants are multi-skilled health professionals specifically educated to work in ambulatory settings performing administrative and clinical duties. The practise of medical assisting directly influences the public’s health and well-being. It requires mastery of a complex body of knowledge and specialized skills requiring formal education and practical experience that serve as standards for entry into the profession. Medical assistants work alongside physicians, mainly in outpatient or ambulatory care facilities, such as medical offices and clinics.
