Introduction

The Energy Utility Technology certificate offers students the opportunity to learn the critical thinking, problem-solving, technical, and soft skills required by the energy industry. All credits will transfer into the Engineering Systems Technology Degree.

Outcomes:

Solve and analyze various energy industry computational problems.

Demonstrate industrial safety practices, including the use of personal equipment and group safety procedures.

Demonstrate overall energy industry knowledge, including regulatory and business issues and energy generation, transmission, and distribution systems.

Demonstrate industry skills and practices, including field power measurements, specialized equipment use, cable handling, preparation, and installation.

Configure, analyze and test various electrical components and electrical subsystems.

Configure, analyze and test various digital components and digital subsystems.

Effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications for reports and presentations.

Demonstrate positive workplace behaviours and ethics, including effective teamwork and bias-free and fact-driven decisions.

Demonstrate effective verbal and written communications, reports, case study analyses, and portfolio entries.

Demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills applied to both qualitative and quantitative problems.
