Introduction
Food production in the U.S. is undergoing vast changes. At the same time global markets are opening up to American agricultural products. With increasing diversity in the American population and with greater emphasis on health and nutrition, consumers are making new demands on agriculture.
Furthermore, government policies continue to change and evolve. Regardless of whether you’re interested in agricultural production, marketing and merchandising, research and development, or public policy, there’s a place for you in agriculture.
The student enrolling in this curriculum should be in the upper half of his/her high school class or have an ACT composite score of 20 or above. Job availability will be dependent upon the major at the four-year institution. Students are encouraged to complete the following courses in high school: (1) three or four years of mathematics; (2) two or three years of science; (3) four years of English; and (4) two to four years of agriculture (where offered).
