Introduction

Philosophy explores the history of human thought and ongoing questions of meaning, value, and truth. It provides excellent preparation for any field requiring critical reasoning skills. The Philosophy concentration prepares students for transfer to a four-year institution.

Philosophy is arguably the oldest and most important of the academic disciplines. At least, that's what Philosophers like to say. In Philosophy, we discuss the Big Questions: Is there a God? What is Truth? What would a just society look like? What is the nature of Reality? Can warfare ever be morally justified? Why is it so hard to find a job as a Philosopher?

At Jefferson College, we offer Ethics, Introduction to Philosophy, Logic, World Religions, and Medical Ethics. We have one full-time faculty member and a roving band of highly qualified and fascinating adjuncts.

Famous Philosophy majors include comedians Steve Martin and Jay Leno, Alex Trebek of "Jeopardy," actor Harrison Ford, financier George Soros, and the late Pope John Paul II.

The Academic Plan for this program is a semester-by-semester plan for the full-time college-ready student. Part-time students should work with an advisor to customize the map to fit individual needs.
