Philosophy investigates fundamental questions about knowledge, value, and existence. This program enables students to expand their ability to think critically and improve their skills in oral and written communication. Courses in the major equip students with the ability to read critically, analyze arguments, and express complex ideas in oral and written work. Philosophy prepares students for a variety of professions such as teaching, law, writing, and jobs in research, management, and technology. Completion of the Philosophy: Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower-division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to a California State University (CSU) or to the University of California (UC) system. For the transfer to a UC, meet with a counselor for additional requirements. The Philosophy program map below includes all of your major coursework and recommended general education courses by term that is needed to fulfill your degree and transfer requirements.
