Delivered by the same instructors that teach our own MBA students, the Summer Graduate Business Studies (SGBS) offers a thorough overview of the fields that garnered Gustavson Business international attention and awards.

Introductory biochemistry focusing on structure/function with applications to medicine, nutrition, and biotechnology, including acid/base chemistry, protein structure, enzyme mechanisms, thermodynamics, and kinetics; nucleic acid structure/function and information transfer, carbohydrates and carbohydrate metabolism, lipids and lipid metabolism, and bioenergetics of oxidative energy metabolism.

An overview of the interdisciplinary study of cognition, information, communication, and language, with an emphasis on foundational issues: What are minds? What is computation? What are rationality and intelligence? Can we predict human behavior? Can computers be truly intelligent? How do people and technology interact, and how might they do so in the future? Lectures focus on how the methods of philosophy, mathematics, empirical research, and computational modeling are used to study minds and machines. Undergraduates considering a major in symbolic systems should take this course as early as possible in their program of study.

The International Summer Institute for Business Management (ISIBM) is an intensive three or four-week program taught by our award-winning professors from the Gustavson School of Business. This program pairs theoretical concepts with experiential learning. Topics covered are Business Communication, Entrepreneurship, Service Management, and International Business.

Prereq: (QST SM 131) and (QST SM 132, previous or concurrent). Basic concepts underlying financial statements and accounting procedures used in preparing statements of financial position, income statements, and statements of cash flow. Stresses the interpretation, analysis, and evaluation of published financial statements.

Applications of mathematics for personal financial decision-making. Systems of equations, exponential functions, logarithms, probability, descriptive statistics, and numerical simulation for modeling saving, borrowing, inflation, purchasing power, taxation, government benefits, risk management, insurance, annuities, and investments.

How does the entrepreneurship process enable the creation and growth of high-impact enterprises? Why does entrepreneurial leadership matter even in a large organization or a non-profit venture? What are the differences between just an idea and a true opportunity? How do entrepreneurs form teams and gather the resources necessary to create a successful startup? Mentor-guided projects focus on analyzing students' ideas, case studies allow for examining the nuances of innovation, the research examines the entrepreneurial process, and expert guests allow for networking with Silicon Valley's world-class entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. Undergraduates of all majors with an interest in startups, leverage breakthrough information, energy, medical, and consumer technologies.

Persuasion is an essential skill for business success. Whether the goal is to influence and motivate your colleagues, superiors, organization, clients, or broader stakeholders, the capacity to persuade diverse audiences is key to effective leadership. In this course, students learn to create and deliver compelling, high-impact verbal and written communications that inspire action.

Presents fundamental knowledge and skills for applying business analytics to managerial decision-making in corporate environments. Provides students with the analytical tools to analyze, manage, and improve manufacturing, service, and business processes.

Explores Arab cultures with a focus on key historical and social issues through the lens of Arabic films, both as historical artifacts and artworks. Diverse cinematic works from Syria, Palestine, Egypt, and beyond are discussed and analyzed. No prior knowledge of the Arab world or Arabic is required.
