Introduction

ISBA - Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Besançon / Franche Comté is the only higher art school in Franche-Comté. Heir to a long history that began in the 18th century with a Royal Academy located in the city centre, the longevity of the school continued until its installation in Bouloie (seat of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Franche-Comté) in the premises designed by the Catalan architect Josep Lluis Sert, to whom we also owe the buildings of the MAEGHT foundation. These are part of the architectural heritage of the twentieth century. Still located on the same site, the institute continues its development within the network of French artistic higher education establishments.

Our establishment has the advantage of being located in premises expressly designed to be an art school. The surface area of these installations of approximately 7,000 m2 is divided between technical workshops, workshops for personal work, maintenance workshops, classrooms, library, conference room, galleries, exhibition rooms, artist residencies, and administrative premises.

Each year of the course has a room or a workshop for lessons or personal work. The following common technical workshops are available to students: drawing, painting, engraving, screen printing, typography, volume, photo lab, video, sound, computer graphics, wood, metal, paint booth. They are under the responsibility of assistants and qualified technicians who accompany the students in the course of the courses, in the realization of their projects, during the imposed exercises, and in the preparation of the assessments and diplomas.
