The Photography School of the IEFC offers photography studios providing the necessary training to those people looking for a professional outlet, a means of artistic expression, or some knowledge that will help them in their activity.

The School is an important reference in the teaching of Photography at a European level . More than 15,000 students have passed through its classrooms, many of them are dedicated to professional photography , be it in its artistic, academic, cultural, business or service aspects.

About us?

The Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya is a non-profit Cultural Association , with the entity philosophy at the service of the public.

The year 2010 was awarded with the distinction of Entity of honor by the Catalan Federation of Photography.

The mission of the IEFC is to encourage, stimulate and promote the study, research and dissemination of photography.

The Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya has been working for 40 years in the training and promotion of photographers , and in the conservation and dissemination of photographic heritage . Our project is to work to be more competitive in the knowledge and information society, where the image has a relevant role.

As a non-profit entity , all income generated by the IEFC itself reverts to the services it offers, some of which are free and open to the general public . The commitment of the human team of the IEFC together with the collaboration of the entities and people that have accompanied us in our projects, have allowed us to get to where we are now.

The IEFC is organized into three departments:


School Department

Offers photography lessons for people looking for professional training or a means of artistic expression.

Department of Documentation and Research

Preserves, manages and disseminates the existing documentation on photography, as well as the photographic heritage of Catalonia. It offers services open to the public of Library, Historical Photo Archive and Photo Library.

Department of Cultural Activities

It disseminates and promotes photography as a cultural event, through the organization and participation in exhibitions, conferences and other training activities (workshops, initiation courses in photography, etc.).

History of the IEFC

The Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC) was founded in 1972 by Miquel Galmes i Creus (1937-2015), who was director until 2012 and president until 2015.

Since 2012, Eduard Bertran is the director of the IEFC, and he is also the president since 2016.

Graduated in Photography

The Graduate in Photography has a duration of three years and its purpose is to offer a technical and humanistic training to the future photographer, in a broad and solid manner. [+]

The Graduate in Photography has a duration of three years and its purpose is to offer a technical and humanistic training to the future photographer, in a broad and solid manner.

Addressed to

Both people who look at photography a means of artistic expression and personal, as a professional outlet. At the end of the Graduate the student reaches the necessary knowledge that will help him carry out his professional and creative activity.

The First Course provides with its contents a base that allows the student to solve any photographic situation both at a technical and conceptual level.

The Second Course consolidates and perfects the techniques and procedures necessary for professional practice, and delves into methodological, historical, narrative and aesthetic concepts.... [-]


Postgraduate in Creation and Reflection Photography

The postgraduate courses offered by the IEFC are designed to provide a specialized degree to photographers who have already completed the degree or who have equivalent knowledge. [+]

The postgraduate courses offered by the IEFC are designed to provide a specialized degree to photographers who have already completed the degree or who have equivalent knowledge.

Three different postgraduate courses are offered, which are obtained by completing a minimum of 120 hours of the Specialization Courses of one of the three areas in which they are structured, plus a final project that reflects the knowledge acquired.

The 120 hours can be done all of the chosen area, or at least 60% is specific and the rest of the other areas.

Historical tour of what has been the presence and the technical and aesthetic evolution of night photography.

Theoretical and reflection classes of the role of night photography and its authors are combined, from the 19th century to the present, with sessions of planning and monitoring of the projects and the works of the students around the night, the darkness, the shadows and other lights.

Author Photography Course

Aimed at people who want to use photography as a tool of personal expression. [+]

Addressed to:

People who want to use photography as a tool for personal expression.

Goals:

To guide the conception, preparation, realization and completion of an own work and that the student is able to develop a personal, coherent and faithful work with a work plan that he designs.

Contents:

During this course, comments are made on photographic books, conferences / colloquiums with authors from different areas that explain their point of view, visits to exhibitions, comments on photographs by various authors and personalized follow-up of the work that students will be doing.

Given the special characteristics of the course, it does not have a totally closed program. The variations on the main structure depend on different factors such as: dates of exhibitions to visit, availability of the lecturers, proposals arising from the students, etc.... [-]


Architecture and Interior Design Course
