Realtime is used in many applications today including judicial reporting, captioning, and CART providing. Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) providers work with the deaf and hard-of-hearing in many different settings including corporate, educational, legal, and medical; they often work in education settings such as a university or high school, assisting a person who is hard-of- hearing to progress through school. With new technology, providers of CART may even work from home and send their captions via Internet to the individual in class. Broadcast captioners use the same technology as court reporters to create the text which viewers see on the bottom of the television screen.
