The City of Leicester

With a population of about 450,000, Leicester is the tenth-largest city in the UK. It is a culturally diverse city with many nations represented. In fact, one road in Leicester is officially the most diverse street in the UK with 22 nationalities among its shops and cafes!

Leicester’s history dates back 2,000 years and includes the famous English monarch King Richard III whose grave was lost for 400 years until it was found by University of Leicester archaeologists in 2012. You can visit King Richard’s tomb in Leicester Cathedral.

The very centre of Britain is just a few miles outside Leicester, making the city an easy place to reach – and a great starting point for exploring Britain or Europe.

There are two international airports nearby, East Midlands Airport and Birmingham Airport, as well as direct rail/coach links to all three of London’s airports: Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. Trains from Leicester to London connect with the Eurostar which travels under the sea to France, so with just one change of train, you could be in Paris by lunchtime.
